Flash's Old Skool Block party

As he proves once again on Essential Mix, Grandmaster Flash can make the most classic record bend to his will. The whole of this mix CD is simply greater than the sum of its parts. And believe me, the parts are great, from the bell-rocking groove of Blondie's "Rapture" to the confection of Denroy Morgan's "I'll Do Anything for You" and the dark, funky abyss of Liquid Liquid's "Cavern." Drawing on hits from the New York clubland and Block partys of the late Seventies and early Eighties, Essential Mix has obvious nostalgic value, but this is much more than a disco flashback. Unlike icy collections of younger DJs, Essential Mix is warm, and not driven by ego-serving choices. Flash's scratches and manipulations don't intrude or break up well-laid grooves but expertly push them along. The album is a reminder of what a profound understanding of pacing, texture and the God-given touch of a man meant to spin vinyl in the dark can do in the space of an hour. Like most of Flash's stuff, Essential Mix is required listening for anyone who dares step behind the wheels of steel.

Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince "Live at Union Square' 20 minute bootleg version

Video is Dj Jazzy Jeff cutting up "Rock the bells"

After my recent posts of the entire "Breaks and Beats" series, I thought I must post this version of "Live at Union Square" by Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince.
Which uses Vol 3 to the max -"Dance to the Drummers beat"-"Apache"-"Got to be real"...
This is not the LP version ,but a rare, unreleased 20 minute version.
A truly phenomenal performance. This was ripped from a bootleg 12".
Enjoy;)

History of the Technics World Champions 1987-2001

No Download on this one just a link to a torrent for the "DMC History of the Technics World Champions 1987-2001" DvD
I recommend you do it over night as it took me four hours to download
but it sure is worth it !

LINK

"Scratch'in to the funk"

Still remember buying this at Groove Records in Soho(London)in 1986.
Getting it home, rubbing the plastic outer cover on the carpet of my
mum's living room floor to open it,running upstairs dropping it on
the deck and being blown away by the first truly representational
record of a Dj's craft.
No samplers,no clever studio editing, just one man, two decks
and the same record cut and scratched into oblivion!!!

Download

Enjoy;)

Compilation label set up by Morgan Khan,
a Hong Kong-born Indian who grew up in London.
He had worked in the UK record industry
since the mid 1970's. Possibly some of the
most important music produced that has
helped shape the future of electronic dance music.
The release of Street Sounds Electro 1 in 1983
paved the way for the Hip hop culture to be heard.
The use of such sounds as the Roland TR-808
rhythm machine, Roland Jupiter-8 synthesizer,
Master of Ceremonies and the introduction of the
Phonograph as an "instrument" (Scratching)
were all prominent features.
The Electro series was popular amongst the Break dance
scene with the general agreement that Electro 1-6
and the Crucial Electro series being the most recognized.(wikipedia)
